In November 2012, Willing Hearts was called to respond to disaster relief in the ground zero of Eileen and Pastor D'Andre's life. They were living in their retired home in Ocean City, NJ, when the storm hit and covered their home, leaving several feet of standing ocean water.
As I arrived at her home right before dusk that evening, there was Eileen, with candles and a flashlight, and that ever-present hopeful smile, anxiously hoping that I would come. I will never forget our first encounter.
Sitting in the middle of her front room, everything else soaked and runined, was a piano. I touched the keys.. and they worked! I asked her who played. And of course - she did. She then proceeded to tell me a story of a group that had arrived that day to help... and asked her to play "Amazing Grace"... one of my favorite songs.
After we reviewed the damage and made a plan to come and help her, we stepped out on what was left of her front porch, to pray for God's help and provision to rebuild her home. And I prayed the following:
Psalm 27: 13:
"I would have lost heart unless I had believed that I would see
the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living"
And as we finished our prayer... I remeber remarking to Eileen that God would do this... we would rebuild her home.
And as I looked up.... there in an opening in the overcast sky appeared a rainbow.. in perfect timing. And we knew that God was with us... and that everything was gonna be ok. And the Grace of God stayed with us every step of the way..."all the way home" to the completion of the D'Andre's home. Thank you Jesus! And thank you to those who chose to come.
